Terence S Jones – a guy with a camera

Altglass and (mostly) available light photography?

Photo shoot @ Millennium Gate

DSC01045-Edit-Edit

Today, Greg and I went for a quick shooting at the Millennium Gate in Atlantic Station. Location and weather were perfect – and so was our model Tai Destiny.

We met a bit earlier to discuss the setup etc (and also to get a coffee ;-) ) and then went over to the gate. The actual shooting started at 10am and we had to fight a bit with the sun being covered by some of the houses. We shot for about 1.5 hours and moved location several times around the gate.

Basic setup – changed a bit over time… see EXIF data.

Camera: Sony NEX 6
Exposure: f/4-5.6, 1/160, ISO 100
Lens: Sony 50mm f/1.8
Flash 1: Canon Speedlite 580 ex ii @ 1/4th power into umbrella camera left
Reflector for fill camera right
Hair light: sun
Triggered by a set of pocket wizards

Here is a lighting diagram which is what we used more or less for all shots.

Atlantic Station as backdrop worked quite well and added some “urban feel” to the shots.

Nice work. NEX6 and 50 f/1.8 have me rethinking the whole
    DSLR APS-C thing.

Thanks. The combination is very powerful indeed. Even at f/4 you get substantial Bokeh. Also, I shoot the nex with Leica-M glass which is extremely cool – i think one or two of those shots are with a 35mm summicron.

Terence S. Jones

Terence is an Atlanta-based photographer doing Altglass photography (vintage glass on mirrorless bodies) and (mostly) black & white available light photography - although lately he is feeling more like color. As many others out here, he is also a gear head eager on trying new gear and trying to find its place in the world of photography. He is definitely traveling too much. He loves Leica, in particular its glass, however he cannot afford a Leica M9 (yet?!).

So expect an inappropriate mix of travel photography, professional photography, gear reviews, news, and tutorials.
