Last weekend Ken and I had a great shooting with Greer Ashton. The shooting was super interesting: we shot on a sidewalk close to some train track in cabbage town.
The setup. Originally we thought of having some glamour like shots with cigarette etc. on the train tracks. However it turned out that this was not feasible due to trains passing by fast, unexpectedly, and regularly. We then simple shoot on a sidewalk.
The location. Sidewalk in cabbage town. we were literally working on a 2 meter strip. A bit more forward and you would have fallen onto the track, a bit more backwards and you were on the streets. In fact, as I was shooting pretty long with a 150mm and 75mm equivalent I had to shoot while being on the street and Ken had to get me off the streets can cars were approaching.
Gear. I felt like doing something special, so I put my old Hexanon on the Nex body with a Leica-M adapter. I am pretty happy with the results. See below and guess which one was shot with which lens.
Camera: Olympus OM-D
Exposure: f/5.6, 1/250, ISO 200
Lens: Olympus 75mm f/1.8Camera: Sony NEX-6
Exposure: f/8, 1/160, ISO 100
Lens: Konica Hexanon 50mm f/2Flash 1: Alien Bees B800 through umbrella
Flash 2: Alien Bees B800 bare
Lighting. Simple and quick two light setup. Mostly filling + rim.
The shots. Here is a mix of shots, some of which were taken with the Hexanon + Sony setup, some with the OM-D + 75mm setup. The look is pretty different I would say. Not clear which one is “better”.
